Sermon: Awakening to Signs of New Life

Theme: We are blessed to be in relationship with a savior who is fulfilling the work of healing and redemption for us and for all of the world.

Purpose: We will seek to see Jesus in our lives in new ways.

Scriptures: Galatians 4:4-7 We are not slaves, but children of God, crying, “Abba! Father!”
Luke 2:22-40 The offering of Jesus at the temple, the prophecy of Simeon and Anna.

Questions:
What does it mean when Simeon tells Mary that “a sword would pierce” her heart? What does it mean to us to know that the baby born in Bethlehem was destined to be rejected and to die? How do we find the joy of the moment in the midst of the knowledge of the problems of the future? How do we remain awake to the present rather than become caught up in the worries and anxieties of the world? How do we become hopeful and confident in God’s time?
