Sermon: Choosing the Light

Theme: Those who cling to their self-importance and are afraid to embrace Jesus’ gifts of forgiveness and love walk in darkness while those who ‘live as children of light’ experience the gifts of wholeness.

Purpose: We will recognize our need to choose light over ego and darkness.

Scriptures:    Ephesians 5:6-14  Once you were filled with darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of Light.

John 8:12-20   Jesus says, “I am the light of the world” and the Pharisees do not accept the light.

Questions: What keeps us from experiencing the light of Christ? How does our holding onto our ego cause us to hold onto grievances, criticisms, hostility, and other habits that keep us in darkness? What is the experience of waking to the light? How do we resist our ego’s temptations to deny what is hopeful, healing, and true? Why do some embrace the light and what is the damage that sort of trait does? What is it like being awake to the light?
