Sermon: “Strength to Overcome”
Theme: Anxiousness and anticipation of disaster robs us of our energy but our strength is renewed as we practice trusting in God’s provision and love.”
Purpose: To be aware of the things that deplete us and the things that renew us.
Scriptures: Psalm 63 My soul is satisfied by the steadfast love of God.
Matthew 17:22-27 Jesus foretells his death and resurrection, the temple tax is found through Peter catching a fish.
Questions:
How do we understand Jesus’ response to the temple tax? How do challenges and obstacles affect our relationship with God? How does our anxiousness and worry cause us to feel distant from God? In what ways do obligations and extra responsibilities affect our perceptions of the blessings that God gives us? How do we find peace in those times and circumstances when we feel we do not have control? What is our source of strength and confidence during confusing and uncertain times?
