On Christmas Eve, we have a Moravian Love Feast with milk and cookies. Have you ever wondered where the Moravian Star began? It started with the Moravian Church. According to the church’s website, these stars came about from geometry lessons. Moravian boarding school students in Germany made these intricate stars during class. Religious leaders and church workers brought these stars with them while doing missionary work during the nineteenth century.
In the Moravian religion, the star is symbolic of God, and is often correlated with the star of Bethlehem. That led to associating the stars with Advent. As we prepare for Christmas, we encourage you to make a star for your home and/or to bring it to church on Christmas Eve. We’ll add your star to our bulletin board that has the history of the Star. You can find instructions for making a Moravian Star click here. Happy Folding!
