Scripture Lesson: Luke 13:10-17
Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on a sabbath. And behold, there was a woman there who had had a spirit of sickness for eighteen years.  She was bent over and unable to lift herself up to her full height. Seeing her, Jesus called to her and said to her, “Woman, you have been loosed from your sickness.” He laid hands upon her and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

But answering, the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus healed on the sabbath, said to the crowd, “There are six days in which it is necessary to work. Therefore, come on those days to be healed and not on the day of the sabbath.”

The Lord answered him and said, “Hypocrites!  Does not each one of you, on the sabbath, loose your ox or your donkey and, having led it away, give it a drink? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for, lo, ten and eight years, be loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?”

On his saying these things, all who were opposed to him were ashamed; and all the crowd were rejoicing at all the glorious things which were being done by him.
