Join us on June 1 at the 9 am worship service with communion as Rev. Dr. Craig Alwin shares the sermon, “Sources of Salvation.” Below are questions to consider for this Sunday’s sermon.
- In the original Greek language, the word “doulos” means “one who belongs to another” and can be translated as either slave or servant. What is the difference? What do you feel could inform which word translators might choose?
- How and why might the imprisonment or captivity of the various people in this story be good or bad? (The slave woman and her owners, the legal authorities, the jailer and his household, the other prisoners, and Paul and Silas, who were both prisoners as well as “servants of the Most High God.”)
- Which person do you most relate with? Which person do you least relate with?
- In what ways, and in whom, do we see salvation (freedom, rescue, release, being saved) realized in this story?
- Where have you experienced “salvation” in your life?
- Where do you seek salvation and peace in your life?
