Making Meaning: A Journey Through Creativity and Connection

We were blessed to have Hannah Chung, author-illustrator, join us on Grandparents Day Sunday, September 7. We invited Hannah to present at
Growing Connections because of her debut picture book, The Most Perfect Persimmon
(2024), is a story about a child waiting impatiently for her grandmother to visit and the
persimmon tree to be just right for grandma.  It is a story about learning patience and
embracing imperfection.
Hannah’s family lived in Fond du Lac for a brief time, where she graduated from Fond
du Lac High School in 2008.  Hannah grew up between the United States and South
Korea, and after high school, studied Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern
University.  She spent over a decade in social impact design, creating two award-winning
companies focused on student innovation and children. She received many
honors for this work, including being recognized by TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions.
Currently, in addition to creating books, Hannah advises creative organizations and
teaches as an adjunct professor at the Rhode Island School of Design. She spends her
time in Providence, Rhode Island, and Seoul, South Korea.
In her presentation,  Making Meaning: A Journey Through  Creativity and
Connection: Hannah discussed her creative process, previous design work, and read of the Most Perfect Persimmon. She also shared a short chat about
Bread Days (2025), her upcoming work about a young girl who rediscovers her passion
for baking bread as she once did with her papa.
