Sermon: “We Just Need to Let Go of It”
Theme: Our attachment to issues that have no meaning causes us misery and destroys our ability to experience the joy of the Lord.
Purpose: To examine the root of our unforgiveness.
Scriptures: Jonah 3:10-4:11 Jonah is bitter because the people he wanted God to destroy were spared, and because the bush he sat under was eaten by worms.
Matthew 20:1-16 Parable of the generous landowner and unhappy servants.
Questions:
In what ways does our judgment and our bias keep us from experiencing God’s grace and peace? Why do we become resentful when our expectations and beliefs are not fulfilled? How do we go about being aligned with God’s love and will? How do we work through being upset when our personal grievances and judgments go unfulfilled? What can we do to practice being open to God’s will and forgiving when we perceive unmerited grace being given to others?
